Because in a string tension can be zero and in the rod the tension would never be zero.
At the highest pt in the q. 49 the velocity will be zero.

Sir question 2 u have done wrong just apply law of conservation of mechanical energy as the object is brought down by a conservative force i.e mgsin@ therefore at top energy is my set ground and at ground energy is 1\2mv^2
I am a bit confused by ques 1. I tried analysing this question basis the worked out example no. 1 of H C Verma.
If I consider the box as the system, since there is no change in its K E, the work done on it by resultant force should be 0 by Work Energy Theorem.
2 forces act on the system i.e. box, namely the force exerted by the person lifting it and the force due to gravity. Thus the work done by man is negative of the work done by gravity.
Also, by law of conservation of energy, if external forces on a system does 0 work, the mechanical energy remains conserved. However, in this case, the KE remains 0 while the PE increases. Thus the energy of the system is not conserved.
Kindly explain where I am getting it wrong. I shall be very thankful.
